Flock printing

To begin with, I screen print a pattern on textile, using adhesive ink. Next I spray flock fibers over the wet print. The flock is made static while being sprayed. This way the fibers all land upright in the glue, giving a very rich velvety look to the fabric.
The flock fibers used here are all viscose, tiny fibers, with a length of between 0,5 and 1 mm. After printing and flocking, the fabric needs to be cured at 140 degrees Celsius.

Flock effects like this can be used on clothing, wallcovering – even on door mats – and for instance stationery. For interior applications, there are printing companies that can flock-print fabrics up to 3 meters wide.
